Sophia Campbell

Athlete of the Week

Senior Sophia Campbell has been a member of the LadyKat Varsity Tennis Team the past four years serving as co-captain the last two seasons.  Currently, she is 10-1 at 1st Doubles and 1-0 at singles.  Recently, Sophia and Emma Henderly captured the First Doubles Title at the Ottawa Hills Invitational. Last Fall, she helped the LadyKats win the NLL Championship, the program’s first since 2012, and earned 1st Team all-league honors.  Sophia has been a true leader on and off the court. She carries a 4.4 GPA and a is member of the National Honors Society, Leadership Academy, Harmony Road Show and A cappella Choir.

Izzy Irwin

Athlete of the Week

Senior Izzy Irwin has been a member of the Northview Varsity Volleyball Team as a middle blocker the past three years.  She played an integral part on last season’s 2020 District Championship Team, the school’s first since 1997.  In the first match of the 2021 season, Izzy dominated a school record with recording 8 aces in a 5 set match which broke the previous record that stood since 2017 held by Paige Beck. During her career, Izzy has 31 aces total since her sophomore year, so this accomplishment is significant. In addition, Izzy’s contribution was part of a team record of 19 aces in a 5 set match set during the same match vs. Avon in the season opener.

Jessica Spencer

Athlete of the Week

Senior Jessica Spencer has been a member of the Northview Cheer Program all four years in football, basketball and on the competition team. She is a cheer coach for the Sylvania Recreation teams and is always the first to volunteer for any activity offered.  Jessica leads by example bringing her spirit and enthusiasm to every game.  She is a powerful tumbler and a strong flyer.  Her energy and effort help her team shine on and off the field.

Emma Henderly

Athlete of the Week

Senior Captain Emma Henderly has been a member of the LadyKat Varsity Tennis team the past four years at Northview.  Currently she is 19–3 at 1st doubles this fall.  She won the first doubles title with Sophia Campbell at the Ottawa Hills Invitational, the Perkin’s Doubles Invite and the Michael’s Doubles Tournament.  Last week, Emma took 3rd place at the NLL Championships with Dipakshi Pal at 1st doubles.  Coach Fisher stated, “Emma has been a true leader on and off the court and her off season training has really paid off for her”.

Avery Albers

Athlete of the Week

Senior Avery Albers is in her fourth year as a member on the LadyKat golf team and this week she made the incredible accomplishment of moving forward as an individual to the OHSAA District Golf Championships!  She always gives her all when it comes to practice at many times practicing on her own on the weekend. In the last two years she has improved her average by almost 20 to 30 strokes per round.  Avery also earned 3rd Team all Northern Lakes League this fall.  Coach Young stated, “for the 2 years I have known Avery, she always chooses to put forth her best effort both in the classroom and on the golf course.

Grant Kopan

Athlete of the Week

Grant Kopan has had an exceptional senior year leading the Northview Boys Soccer team through their regular season schedule.  The senior captain, and 3-time Varsity letter winner, has notched 5 goals and 1 assist while playing as a central back this season.  Grant was voted as a first team all-conference player this year, marking the 3rd time he has received an all NLL award over his career and scored a timely goal this past week to help lift his team to a senior night win.  Even more impressive is Grant's impact off the field, as he excels in the classroom with a 4.55 GPA, is a student leader throughout many different school organizations and is a multi-sport athlete who also stars on the basketball court for Northview as well.

Aidan Schmidt

Athlete of the Week

Senior running back Aidan Schmidt has been a member of the Varsity Football Team for the past three years. He played in 6 games this fall and averaged over 115 yards per game.  Aidan also averaged over 10 yards per catch on offense.  Last Friday, he wrapped up his career at Northview with an 83-yard touchdown run leading the Wildcats to victory over cross town rival Southview.  Aidan finished the game with 164 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns giving him 6 touchdowns for the season.  He is an all-conference performer on both sides of the ball.  In addition to being a leader on the field, Aidan leads by example in the classroom currently carrying a 4.3 GPA.

Lyza Shamy

Athlete of the Week

Senior Lyza Shamy has been a Varsity member of the Northview Girls Soccer Program the past four years.  She was a Captain that helped lead the LadyKats to 10 wins this fall including an unbeaten NLL season.  Her ability to break-up play and technique on the ball was huge for the team’s style play this past season.  Lyza finished her Senior season as a 4-time 1st Team All Northern Lakes League recipient.  In addition, she earned NLL All Academic honors.  At the District level, Lyza earned honors all four years.  As a freshman, she was on the 2nd Team and was a member of the 1st Team All District each of the last three seasons.  Lyza will continue her academic and athletic careers as a Greyhound at the University of Indianapolis next fall majoring in Biology.
