Jeremy and his wife Mellisa (Director of Student Support Services for Sylvania Schools) live in the Northview district with their son Mason (9 years old), a 4th Grader at Highland Elementary.

Staff connections:

-Associate Head Coach Evan Bauer: played for Coach at Waite High School from 2005-2009! These were Coach McDonald's 2nd-5th years in coaching.

-Assistant Aerin West: Coach McDonald was the varsity assistant during Aerin's freshmen year (Aerin played varsity as a frosh) and the Head Coach for his senior campaign, where the Wildcats won their first NLL title in 15 years. This was McDonald's first season at the helm for Northview.

-Assistant Alek West: Alek was a four year starter in Coach McDonald's first four seasons as head coach at Northview. Alek won two league titles (2016 and 2019) and the 2019 team was 23-1, finishing the regular season ranked #3 in the Ohio State poll.

-Assistant Joe Guerrero: Like McDonald, Joe is Waite High School graduate. Coach Guerrero was the Head Coach at Waite in 1991, the first year Coach McDonald started attending games as a fan. Joe coached against Jeremy as a player (Waite), assistant (Waite, Central, Southview) and head coach (Northview).

Biography:

Coach Bauer is in his 10th year as an assistant at Northview. He currently serves as the Associate Head Coach. Evan played for Coach McDonald at Waite High School from 2005-2009!

Evan and his wife Kenya (Youngstown State WBB alumnus, current Toledo Firefighter) reside in Sylvania with their sons Julian (8, Hill View Elementary) and Bryson (4).

Coach served as the freshmen coach for two years, junior varsity for three years and this year, will be his fifth primarily as a varsity assistant.

The Wildcats are thrilled to welcome Coach Alek West back to our program! Coach West was a four year starter for the Wildcats in Coach McDonald's first four seasons at the helm. Alek played his junior high hoops at Arbor Hills under Coach Evan Bauer, before both joined the Northview program in the 2015-2016 season. Coach McDonald and Coach Bauer are excited to work with Alek!

Family

Alek is engaged to Northview grad Maria Restivo. The two will wed in July of 2025! Alek's brother Aerin will join him as an assistant this year.

Education

Alek is a 2019 graduate of Northview where he was First Team All-Ohio in Basketball and Soccer as a senior. Alek is still the all time assist and steals leader in Wildcats' history and ranks third in scoring. Alek went on to play collegiate basketball, first at Ohio Dominican and then West Liberty University, where his 2022-23 team advanced to the Division 2 National Title game. Alek graduated with Bachelor's and Master's Degrees from West Liberty. 

Work

Coach West serves as a Substitute Teacher while awaiting admittance to Medical School and also works as the Boys' Soccer Coach at Woodward.

Coaching

Coach West enters his first year in coaching, directly from a highly successful college basketball career.

Coach still enjoys basketball and soccer and has recently picked up pickleball. He and brother Aerin will compete to see who the second best pickleball player (behind McDonald) on staff is.

The Wildcats are excited to welcome back Coach Aerin West for his fourth year in our program! Coach McDonald is proud to have coached Aerin during his freshmen (as the varsity assistant) and senior (as the head coach) seasons at Northview. During his senior campaign, Coach Evan Bauer served as the Head Freshmen Coach and as a varsity assistant.

Aerin is engaged to Toledo attorney Erin English. The two will wed November 9, 2024! Aerin's brother Alek will join him as an assistant this year.

Education

Aerin is a 2016 graduate of Northview, where he still stands as the second leading scorer in school history. He graduated with his undergraduate degree in Interdisciplinary Studies, Health Policy from the University of Cincinnati, where he also starred on the soccer team.In 2023, Aerin graduated from the University of Toledo's school of law and passed the bar in February of 2024.

Work

Coach West serves as a Transactional Attorney at Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick in Downtown Toledo.

Coaching

Coach West enters his fourth year on staff, this year serving as a varsity assistant. Coach has also spent time coaching soccer at Northview and Woodward.

Coach enjoys spending time with family, watching hoops, playing pickleball and doing pilates. He roots from the Red Sox, Michigan (CFB) and Duke (CBB). He is a self-proclaimed "Lebron fan."

The Wildcats are excited to welcome back Coach Zach Hoover for his second year in our program! Coach will serve as the Head Coach for our Junior Varsity team, as well as a varsity assistant.

Coach Hoover currently lives in Sylvania. He will marry his Fiance, Abbey Pawlak (Northview, c/o 2015) in June of 2025!

Education

Zach is a 2016 graduate of Central Catholic High School and received his degree from The Ohio State University, where he was a punter for the Buckeyes.

Work

Coach Hoover works as a sales representative for Game One.

Coaching

This will be Coach Hoover's second year on staff. Last season, he served as the freshmen coach. Zach previously coached football at Central.

Zach played basketball and football at Central Catholic and went on to become a collegiate punter, first at Iowa State and then Ohio State.

Zach enjoys watching college football in the fall and rooting for his Ohio State Buckeyes. He is an avid golfer and enjoys spending time with family and friends.

Biography:

The Wildcats are excited to welcome legendary Coach Joe Guerrero to our program! Coach McDonald has known Coach Guerrero for 25+ years as they are both Waite High School graduates and McDonald competed against Coach's teams as a player, assistant coach and finally as a head coach. Coach Guerrero was one of the first individuals to encourage Coach McDonald to begin coaching and has been a friend and mentor ever since. Coach McDonald is beyond thrilled to have Coach Guerrero join the staff!

Family

Coach Guerrero lives in Sylvania with his significant other Connie. He has two adult children and three grandchildren.

Education

Coach Guerrero is a graduate of Waite High School and Ohio Northern University, where he starred as a pitcher on the baseball team. He later pitched professionally in the Mexican League and for one season in the Carolina League (MiLB).

Work

Coach retired from teaching after the 2023-24 school year, capping an impressive teaching career, where he served Oregon City and Toledo Public Schools in six different decades.

Coaching

Coach Guerrero began as an assistant coach and then served 34 years as a head varsity basketball coach with stops at Waite, Clay, Start and Bowsher. Coach Guerrero's teams hold the single season records for wins at Waite (1991) and Bowsher (2014) and have amassed over 400 wins and the 2014 District Championship in Division 1.

Joe retired from coaching after the 2022-2023 season at Bowsher. He will be returning to the profession to serve our program as the Freshmen Coach.

Coach Spangler currently lives in Holland with his girlfriend Sara.

Education:

2016 graduate of Northview. Recently graduated from the University of Toledo with a degree in Education, specializing in Integrated Social Studies for Adolescent and Young Adult Education.

Serve as a substitute teacher in Sylvania Schools.
