Kamryn Hunt Named AVCA All-American

LEXINGTON, Ky. (November 9, 2022) - The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) is proud to announce the 17th annual AVCA Girls High School All-America Teams. 

Northview senior outside hitter, Kamryn Hunt, has been named Honorable Mention All-American. Hunt is the first Northview Volleyball player to awarded this honor. In her career, she contributed some amazing stats:

  • Matches Played - 98
  • Sets Played - 331
  • Attacking - 3003 attempts, 1293 kills, averaging 3.906 kills per set, hitting .275 with a 43% kill percentage.
  • Serving - 756 attempts, 83 aces, with a 87% serving percentage
  • Blocking - 11 total blcoks, 60 of those being solo and 51 being assisted
  • Digging - 765 digs, averaging 2.31 digs per set
  • Passing - 1587 passing attempts with a passing rating of 1.96 with 603 perfect passes

A record 1,183 nominations were submitted to the AVCA and MaxPreps, resulting in 300 All-Americans and Honorable Mention All-American selections. Fifty athletes were named to each of the AVCA All-America First, Second, and Third Teams, and 150 athletes were named Honorable Mention All-America.

In case you missed it, of the 1,183 nominees, 903 were awarded the AVCA Best and Brightest Award and 530 were named AVCA All-Region.

Requirements for nomination were that the student-athlete be in her senior year of high school, and that she be nominated by her AVCA member high school head coach. Additionally, her individual statistics for the entire season must be entered into and submitted via MaxPreps, a free service that aggregates and distributes data on high school sports.

All-Ohio Team Announced for 2022 Season

COLUMBUS - The Ohio High School Volleyball Coaches Association has announced its 2022 All-Ohio teams. This year, Northview has three awards winners - Kamryn Hunt, 2nd Team All-Ohio; Sydney Hires, Honorable Mention All-Ohio; and Natalie Kerchevall, Honorable Mention All-Ohio. In addition, Northview's Head Coach, Chad Rutkowski, was recognized with the Coaches Achievement Award.

Kamryn Hunt, senior outside hitter, has cemented her name as one of the best to ever play at Northview. With this honor, she is the first three time All-Ohio award winner (Megan Beier was awarded All-Ohio twice). In addition, she was a three time First Team All-NLL honoree, a three time First Team All-District VII honoree and has set multiple school records in her time with the Wildcats. 

Sydney Hires, senior outside hitter, was named Honorable Mention All-Ohio, her first selection to an All-Ohio team. The Montana State University commit is a four year letter winner, a four year starter as well as being recognized as a two time All-NLL team selection and two time All-District VII selection. 

Natalie Kerchevall, junior setter/opposite, was named Honorable Mention All-Ohio, her first All-Ohio recognition. She is a two time All-NLL team selection (2nd team in 2021 and 20222) and a two time All-District VII team selection (Honorable Mention in 2021 and First Team in 2022). 

Northview Head Coach, Chad Rutkowski, was awarded the Coaches Achievement award with two others: Jen Chapman, Olentangy Liberty and Ali Butcher, Ursuline Academy. This years Division 1 Coach of the Year was awarded to Megan Green, Magnificat.

Hunt Selected to AVCA Girls High School Volleyball All-Region Team

LEXINGTON, KY. (Nov. 2, 2022) — The AVCA is excited to announce its third annual Girls High School Volleyball All-Region Teams. A total of 530 players made the teams, based on the regions — 10 total, states grouped geographically — where their schools are located.

Northview senior, Kamryn Hunt, who is committed to Ohio University and will join the Bobcats in the fall of 2023, was named to the AVCA Girls High School Volleyball All-Region team for Region 5 which encompasses the top 50 seniors in Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, West Virginia). Hunt has been a pivotal piece of the Wildcats success this as Northview is 20-5 overall, winning its first NLL title since 2015 and their third District Championship in the 46 year history of Northview Volleyball. The number of athletes chosen for each All-Region Team is determined by the amount of AVCA High School All-America nominations received for that region. The top 50 percent of nominated athletes, as selected by the AVCA High School Regional Committees, are named to their respective All-Region team.

The 2022 AVCA High School All-America Teams will be announced next Wednesday, November 9. Only athletes that made one of the All-Region Teams are eligible to be considered for the All-American Teams, which will include a First Team, a Second Team, a Third Team, and Honorable Mention selections.

Five LadyKats Selected to All-NLL Volleyball Teams

The Northern Lakes League has announced the All-NLL Teams for the 2022 season. This year, the Northview Wildcats finished tied for first place in the league with a 12-2 record (17-5 overall before tournament play) and finished the season ranked #12 in Division 1 in the Ohio High School Volleyball Coaches Association Poll, had the following honors bestowed upon this team with five selected to All-NLL teams. 

First Team - Kamryn Hunt, Senior, Outside Hitter.

  • This is the third consecutive year that Kamryn was voted to First Team.

Second Team - Natalie Kerchevall, Sophomore, Setter | Sydney Hires, Junior, Outside Hitter

  • This is the second consecutive year that Natalie and Sydney were voted to Second Team.

Third Team - Jordyn Pakulski, Junior, Libero | Claire Smith, Sophomore, Middle Blocker

  • This is the second consecutive year that Claire was voted to Third Team. This is the first nomination and selection for Jordyn. 

Congratulations to these five Northview Wildcats on representing this team with honor and grace.

Five NVVB Players Elected All-District, Rutkowski Coach of the Year

The Ohio High School Volleyball Coaches Association, District VII, has annouced their All-District teams for the 2022 season and give Northview Wildcats were elected to All-District VII teams:

First Team All-District VII

  • Kamryn Hunt, Senior, Outside Hitter
  • Natalie Kerchevall, Junior, Setter/Opposite

Honorable Mention All-District VII

  • Sydney Hires, Senior, Outside Hitter
  • Claire Smith, Junior, Middble Blocker

In addition, Northview Head Volleyball Coach, Chad Rutkowski, was elected as the 2022 District VII Coach of the Year as the Wildcats have posted a 20-5 overall record and a #12 ranking in the state of Ohio.

OHSVCA and MaxPreps Polls Released - Week 6

In the sixth and final Ohio High School Volleyball Coaches Association Coaches Poll and the first MaxPreps Computer Poll of the season, Northview Volleyball comes in at #12 in the Coaches Poll and #13 in the MaxPreps Computer Poll. This is the first time in school history that Northview has been named on each of the six week of the Coaches Poll.

The OHSVCA Coaches Poll is simply a coaches vote throughout the state of Ohio. There are six (6) polls through the season and they are released every Sunday evening on the OHSVCA website. 

The MaxPreps Computer Poll does not poll coaches, sportswriters or fans. Nor does their staff make any judgments on the merits of any individual team. Prior season history, school size and comments on message boards are not considered in the MaxPreps Computer Rankings.

Kam Hunt Breaks School Record for Career Kills

SYLVANIA - On Tuesday, September 6th Crosstown Showdown between Northview and Southview, Northview senior, Kam Hunt recoreded her 1,011th career kill placing her first in the record books for total career kills, surpassing 2020 graduate, Hannah Frame. With 16 regular season matches remaining in the season, plus post-season matches, Kam will certainly leave her mark in the history books for years to come.

Kam Hunt Surpasses 1,000 Career Kills

SYLVANIA - On Thursday, September 1, 2022 in the first home match of the year for the Wildcats, senior, Kamryn Hunt recorded her 1,000th career kill becoming only the 2nd player, behind Hannah Frame (class of 2020), in Northview Volleyball history to surpass this milestone. She currently has 1,001 and will become the All-Time leader on Tuesday in Northview's home match in the Crosstown Rival verse Southview. 

Here are the statistics of Kamryn's career:

  • 2019 - Freshman Year (at Central Catholic): 162 kills, 9 blocks, 30 digs
  • 2020 - Sophomore Year (at Northview): 422 kills, .188 hitting percentage, 35 aces, 28 blocks, 293 digs
  • 2021 - Junior Year: 329 kills, .218 hitting percentage, 27 aces, 28 blocks, 200 digs
  • 2022 - Senior Year (through 9/1/22): 88 kills, .305 hitting percentage, 6 aces, 6 blocks, 59 digs
  • Career Totals: 1,001 kills, .267 hitting percentage, 68 aces, 71 blocks, 582 digs

Ubuntu is the Theme for Team 46

SYLVANIA, OH - Ubuntu  "It's a way of life. It's not even a word." The theme for Team 46 is one that is encompasses the mindset and way of life that is "I am because we are." This is displayed in the locker room, at practice, and even on the inside of the game jerseys.

Northview Volleyball Schedule Release

Sylvania Northview High School Volleyball released it's 2022 schedule on Monday, March 28th. This year's schedule is slated with fourteen Northern Lakes League conference matches, before the league realignment before the 2023 season, one home and one away match verse each opponent. 

Just as their 2021 schedule, the 2022 schedule for the Wildcats will rival as one of the toughest schedules in the state of Ohio. For the 2022 campaign with Wildcats will play the 2021 OHSAA State Champion in Division 1 (Magnificat), Division 2 (Gilmour Academy), Division 3 (Liberty Benton), the 2021 OHSAA Runner-up in Division 1 (Olentangy Liberty) and Division 1 Final Four participant (Amherst Steele).

Northview Volleyball kicks off the 2022 season with tryouts on August 1st and August 20th with their first match at Avon High School; freshman at 10:00 A.M., JV at 11:00 A.M. and Varsity at 12:30 P.M. Hunt & Kerchevall Named to JVA Watch List

Congratulations to Kamryn Hunt, Outside Hitter (Class of 2023) and Natalie Kerchevall, Setter/Opposite Hitter (Class of 2024) on being named to the 2022 Junior Volleyball Association Watch List! This award recognizes players from JVA supportive clubs for outstanding achievement on the volleyball court.

Players eligible for nomination are currently competing in age divisions 15U, 16U, 17U or 18U and graduating high school in 2022, 2023, 2024 or 2025. The nomination must be submitted by the Club Director or Club Administrator from a JVA Member Club. The players nominated must be from the top two teams in the age division.

JVA Watch List players have the opportunity to be eligible for the 2022 JVA All-National Team powered by Fivestar.

This is the second consecutive nomination for both Hunt and Kerchevall to the JVA Watch List.

Physical Offering by Dr. Frame

This year, once again, Dr. Mickey Frame, Frame Acupuncture and Chiropractic, will offer Physical Examinations for Northview Volleyball players for $25.00 per athlete. As a kind supporter of Northview Volleyball, Dr. Frame donates all money collected for Physical's back to Northview Volleyball.

In 2022, physicals will be performed on Saturday, July 9, 2022. To schedule a physical with Dr. Frame on this date, please call (419) 475-9355. All exams will take place at 3829 Woodley Rd, Toledo, OH 43606.
