COLUMBUS - For the second consecutive year, Northview junior, Kamryn Hunt, has been selected as an Ohio High School Volleyball Coaches Association (OHSVCA) All-Ohio Honorable Mention award winner. In 2020, Hunt was selected as third Team All-Ohio and is only the 2nd player in Northview history (Megan Baier, 1998 Third Team All-Ohio and 1999 Second Team All-Ohio) to be honored twice.
When asked about her award this year, Kamryn said "we certainly have our sights set on 2022 - to win the programs first Regional Championship and to represent Northwest Ohio in the Final Four. We know that the teams success will drive our individual success and I would be honored to have the opportunity to be the first three-time All-Ohio winner and to be the only Northview player to be selected to First Team All-Ohio but know that will come on the heels of the team and our success as a unit."
In 2021, Kamryn led the Wildcats to a 13-12 overall record (10-4 in the NLL) and the third District Final in three years, finishing as a District Runner-up. Kamryn led the team in kills (329), passing attemps (521), passing rating (1.95) and points earned per set (4.4) and was second on the team in blocks (34), and third on the team in digs (200).
The Northview program returns 10 from their 2021 roster and clearly has their sights set high for the upcoming year.

“Even though teams might not have played during their usual season or may not have competed at all during the past year, coaches still found ways to lead their players to academic excellence,” said AVCA Executive Director Kathy DeBoer. “This is a testament to the important role volleyball coaches play in their players success both on and off the court.”
The award, initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.30 on a 4.0 scale or 4.10 on a 5.0 scale.
Girl's high school again has the most winners by category, with 413 teams receiving honors. Women’s collegiate teams were well represented; over 50% of the membership in all three NCAA divisions won the award, including a new record of 243 DI programs.
Girl’s high school also led the way in teams earning the award for the first time in 2021, with 65 new programs celebrating their academic achievements. Mirroring the rapid growth in the division, beach had the most new collegiate programs participating with 12 teams earning their first Team Academic award this season.
The AVCA is proud to recognize eight 2020-2021 National Championship and AVCA Tournament winners that also excelled in the classroom:
- University of Kentucky (NCAA Division I)

Sylvania, Ohio – Chad Rutkowski, entering his sixth year at the helm of the Northview Volleyball program, welcomes two new additions to their staff: Kelsey Cortright, Head Junior Varsity Coach and Varsity Assistant; and Andrew Haughawout, Head Freshman Coach and Varsity Assistant. “To say I am excited to have both Kelsey and Andrew join our program would be a huge understatement,” Rutkowski said. “Both of these individuals are beyond qualified to lead their own programs and are the ultimate professionals: we are very lucky that they have selected to join the NVVB family. The knowledge, passion and energy they will bring to our program will be contagious. My respect for both of them as great people has only grown during this process as they both exude the values of our program, our school, and our community. I am eager to get them on campus to start this journey in a few short weeks!”
Cortright is making the transition to Northview after spending the last three seasons as the head coach of volleyball program at Adrian Madison High School after a six year stint at North Adams-Jerome High School where she won a combined eight conference titles and six district titles. Haughawout is coming back to coaching at the high school level and said he is proud to join such a class act program and one of the best in the state of Ohio.
Haughawout is currently coaching at Toledo Volleyball Club and previously coached at Bowling Green High School for two seasons. Rutkowski said “this is a game changer for volleyball in northwest Ohio and will aid in elevating our program upwards as we strive for an NLL Championship and a repeat as District Champions, ultimately focused on representing Northwest Ohio in the State Final Four!”
Cortright and Haughawout are joining the staff of Trey Fanfulik, Associate Head Coach (7th year); Abbey Pawlak ‘15, Volunteer Assistant Coach (2nd year); Heidi Wiczynski, Volunteer Assistant Coach (4th year); and Aubrey Nemire ‘19, Volunteer Assistant Coach.
